A senior policeman said on Monday police should play a role in curbing crimes by putting in more efforts.“I have zero tolerance for any sort of mafia and these mafias couldn’t survive if police perform its duty honestly and under existing laws,” Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara Range, Mazharul Haq Kakakhel, told a police Darbar at the Police Lines. District Police Officer Zaibullah Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Arif Javed were also in attendance. The DIG believed that outdated police culture where complainants, particularly women were hesitant to come to police stations for justice was over and now police were safeguarding the rights of citizens. “You should be helpful to people and be prompt in action against land mafias, narcotics peddlers and other anti-social elements,” said the official. He said the society could change if police discharge responsibilities under the law and social norms. The senior cop said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police had rendered great sacrifices in the war against terror.
