Function at SBBWU: Panel wants ways found to end gender-based violence

PESHAWAR: A panel talk on Monday called for finding ways to put an end to the ever-rising incidents of gender-based violence in the country and elsewhere in the world.The opening ceremony of ‘16 days of activism against gender-based violence’ was held at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar. It was supported by the US Mission Pakistan in partnership with Pakistan-US Alumni Network (PUAN).The panel, comprising Prof Dr Razia Sultana, Vice-chancellor, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar, Prof Dr Nasir Jamal Khattak of Department of English Language and Literature, University of Peshawar, and Faisal Shehzad, Department of Law, Islamia College University Peshawar, talked about the importance of gender-based violence.They urged everyone to come up with ways to end gender-based violence. Dr Razia Sultana said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University has been working for the development of the women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for more than a decade.She said the panel talk on ‘16 days of activism against gender-based violence’ showed our dedication and commitment towards this cause.The panel appreciated the US Mission Pakistan and PUAN for joining hands with the SBBWU and supporting the efforts for promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women in KP.Project Director Waheedullah Mohmand welcomed the panellists and the participants. The ceremony was opened by SBBWU vice-chancellor by unveiling the banner on “16 days of activism against gender-based violence’.Then candles were lit by Dr Razia Sultana, Faisal Shehzad, and Waheedullah Mohmand in remembrance of the individuals who die each year through violence in the world. A minute of silence was also observed to pay homage to the victims of violence around the world, which was followed by a walk.
