IU holds workshop on Batik

Islamabad :Iqra University (IU) Islamabad Campus Friday organised a workshop in collaboration with Indonesian Embassy to introduce Indonesian textile product ‘Batik’ to the fashion and design students in Pakistan, says a press release.Batik is the signature product of Indonesia and has also been recognised by UNESCO as the world intangible Cultural Heritage.IU vice president Dr Muhammad Islam welcomed the representatives of the embassy along with Indonesian Batik artists at the Islamabad campus. A large number of fashion and textile design students participated in the workshop on the traditional wax-resist technique of decorating fabric.Speaking on the occasion, Deny Tri Basuki, Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy, said that the Batik was the most famous and signature Indonesian textile product.He added that the workshop was organised with the view to foster cultural and academic linkages between the two countries. The official also expressed hope that the workshop provided a unique opportunity to the talented students of design to learn the Indonesian exclusive art.The Cultural Counsellor also lauded Fashion & Design Department of Iqra University for keen interest in the workshop and making it a big success. The embassy had invited Fonna Melania Djuwaeni, Ulfah Yulaifah and Andri Purbawiana to conduct workshops in Islamabad. Djuwaeni is a seasoned and renowned Batik artist from the Sukabumi city of Indonesia.The workshop sparked great interest in the participants. Many of the students quickly picked up the technique and produce their own beautiful designs.
