Governor House hosts carnival for 400 orphans

The Sindh Governor House on Sunday hosted a carnival for 400 orphans residing in the Pakistan Sweet Homes run by the Pakistan Baitul Maal.The children visited the historical portions of the Governor House that were used by the founder and first governor general of the country, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. The children also witnessed the Quaid’s articles of personal use kept at the Governor House.The carnival for the Pakistan Sweet Homes’ children featured face painting, magic show, cartoon characters, musical show, musical chairs, food stalls, and puppet show. The children were thoroughly entertained at the event as they participated in various recreational activities and consumed food items.Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail called on affluent segments of society to support destitute children who had no families that could look after them. He said privileged classes should actively contribute towards nurturing and education of such orphaned children. Ismail appreciated the mission of the Pakistan Baitul Maal to support such children and educate them so that they become responsible members of society in the future.Earlier, talking to media persons during his visit to Aga Khan University Hospital to enquire after the injured Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan, the governor said funds for the newly announced Rs162 billion special package for Karachi would not be drawn by the Centre from the National Finance Commission award.To a question, Ismail said a proposal was under consideration to rename the Benazir Income Support Programme. To another question, the governor said there was no need to especially invite the Sindh chief minister to the programmes attended by the prime minister in the province as whenever the PM visited the province, his schedule was duly shared with all the relevant quarters.
