Geo Entertainment’s newest TV play, Yaarian, which stars Ayeza Khan, Momal Sheikh, Junaid Khan and Muneeb Butt in key roles, went on-air earlier this month. Two episodes into the play, it seems, the drama serial is winning hearts having generated very high ratings, 9.1 to be precise, after the first episode. The play follows the lives of sisters Sadia and Zobia, essayed by Momal and Ayeza, respectively. Sadia is Nikah-fied to her cousin Ahmar, played by Junaid Khan. Zobia, on the other hand, is in love with a rich, spoiled young man Umair (Muneeb Butt) whose mother remains upset with him for not taking the family business seriously. Despite Sadia’s advice, Zobia doesn’t stop hanging out with Umair; she even calls Umair over on the occasion of Sadia’s birthday while their parents were away. At the same time, Ahmar along with her mother come to surprise Sadia but leave in anger as soon as they see Sadia with Umair, while she was asking him to leave the house. Zobia stays away from the scene to avoid any consequences. This leads to a huge misunderstanding as everyone blames Sadia while Zobia had an accident, trying to stop her father from hitting Sadia. Zobia ends up in a coma; Umair is guilty and tensed due to Zobia while Ahmar decides to part ways with Sadia upon his mother’s insistence. All four actors bring their A-game to the table, making Yaarian worth watching. Written by Sameena Aijaz and directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain, the play also touches upon the theme of sexual harassment among other things. Let’s wait and see how things unfold in future episodes.
