KMU enters into partnership to provide quality health care

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University and AIMS Pakistan (Diabetes Hospital & Research Centre Hayatabad) have signed a MoU to formalise the collaborative partnership.The two will provide an equal opportunity to the local population for diabetes, hypertension and non-communicable disease screening and quality care under the umbrella of the multidisciplinary team through the concept of family medicine. KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Arshad Javaid and AIMS Pakistan President Dr Ziaul Hassan signed the MoU at the KMU on behalf of their respective organisations. The MoU will be valid for a period of three years unless otherwise agreed mutually for early termination. According to the terms of reference, AIMS Pakistan will provide clinics, personnel, logistics and any other support and assistance required on the premises of the hospital situated in Phase V Hayatabad, Peshawar. KMU-Institute of Public Health & Social Sciences will provide clinical services, implement the concept of family medicines and help in establishing AIMS as a research and training facility. Both the parties will support each other towards the common goals of patient care, work in a harmonious manner and appreciate each other’s role and contributions toward quality services. Meanwhile, talking to CME Seminar on “Insulin Treatment” organised by AIMS Sugar Hospital, Diabetes Association KP and Eli Lily in collaboration with Prof Dr Arshad Javaid said that in the current prevalence rates of diabetes far exceed the TB.He said it goes without saying that if we failed to control the diabetes outbreak, the country may pose problems in TB control also, because, diabetes as a multi-system resistance lowering disease will only rejuvenate the TB epidemic.
