Naqeeb’s family seeks to know status of corruption complaint against Rao Anwar

The counsel of Naqeebullah Mehsud, who was killed in fake encounter by a former Mlair SSP Rao Anwar-led team in Shah Latif Town, sent a letter to the National Accountability Bureau, seek to know about the status of a complaint against the former SSP regarding his alleged involvement in corruption. The father of 27-year-old Mehsud had sent an application to NAB, requesting a probe against Anwar in relation to acquiring assets and resources disproportionate to the known source of income and the offence of money laundering under the NAB Ordinance and anti-money laundering laws.He alleged that there was clear evidence that the former SSP was a thoroughly corrupt police officer, who had acquired assets beyond his known means and had engaged in money laundering.According to the complaint sent to NAB, Mehsud’s father submitted that the salary of Anwar as SSP was Rs113,772 and despite such a salary he had travelled 74 times to Dubai since 2012. He said that it was incomprehensible for an officer with a maximum salary of Rs113,772 to be able to afford as many trips.“It is clear that the aforementioned trips have been financed through assets acquired beyond means and in order to launder money,” alleged the complainant. Anwar and other police personnel were also facing trial before an anti-terrorism court for murdering Mehsud and three other citizens in a fake encounter in January this year.An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on March 25 framed charges against Anwar and 17 other retired and serving policemen for the alleged murder of Naqeebullah and implicating him in bogus cases.
