An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for committing a robbery, a shootout and possessing illegal weapon.The ATC-X judge convicted Abdul Kareem of all charges and awarded him 10 years each for the robbery and the encounter with police, and seven years imprisonment for an unlicensed pistol. All the sentences will run concurrently.The judge also directed the convict to pay a fine of Rs6,500,00 or else face additional imprisonment of one year. Kareem was found guilty of robbing a citizen at gunpoint and for firing at policemen who chased him within the jurisdiction of the Sharea Faisal police station. According to the prosecution, he was shot injured in the encounter and was taken into custody. The judge ruled that the prosecution successfully established its case against the accused.The verdict had been reserved in the last hearing after both the sides concluded their arguments. The trial was conducted inside the central prison.Drunk cop bookedPolice registered a case against an on-duty cop who was found drunk while guarding an injured street criminal at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).A First Information Report 122/19 was registered under Section 11 of Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order on behalf of the state at the Saddar police station.According to Saddar SHO Shabbir Haider, the policeman, Zeeshan Haider, was posted at the investigation wing of the District East police. He had been taken into custody over being drunk on duty. Haider was deployed for security duty of the injured street criminal, Ahsan Elahi, who was under treatment at the JMPC.The SHO said the action was taken against the cop when a video went viral on social media where the cop could be seen intoxicated in the hospital. The injured robber was an ex-policeman and four mobiles, pistol and a bike, which had reportedly been snatched from Bahadurabad in 2018 were found on him at the time of his arrest.
