Karachi Kings defeat Lahore Qalandars by five wickets

LAHORE: Karachi Kings defeated Lahore Qalandars by five wickets in the 20th match of the PSL-4 at the Dubai International Stadium Thursday night.Karachi Kings’ bowling attack restricted Qalandars to 133 runs in the second fixture of the day and then achieved 134 for five with five balls to spare. Kings, who were at 77-2 by the end of over-11 with Liam Livingstone and Colin Ingram present on the crease, chased the score producing small partnerships. In those stands, Livingstone, Iftikhar Ahmed and Imad Wasim played a key role. When C. Munro (15) and Babar Azam (11) were gone at one for 21 and two for 28, Livingstone lived up to the expectations to score 38. And when further hopes rested on Colin Ingram, he was bowled by Haris Rauf at 12. From there on, unbeaten Iftikhar, who got 25-ball 33 and Imad together, achieved the target.Leggie Lamichhane caught Munro on 15, as the batsman tried to play inside-out drive but went straight to the diving Haris Sohail at mid-off. The leggie struck back with a major wicket of Babar Azam, who got bowled at 11.Earlier, AB de Villiers with his 33 runs innings off 32 balls remained the highest scorer for the Qalandars before giving his wicket to fast bowler Muhammad Aamir in his attempt to back-sweep. Sohail Akhtar contributed unbeaten 29 runs in the death overs of the innings.For the Kings, Iftikhar Ahmed took two wickets while skipper Imad Wasim, Muhammad Aamir and Umar Khan took one each. Haris Sohail remained not-out for 33 as they took Qalandars easily over the finish line in the 16th over.Gauhar Ali was sent back to the pavilion on 4 by Imad Wasim, after he was caught by Aamir inside the circle. Iftikhar Ahmed claimed the big wicket of Fakhar Zaman on 18 as he tried to skip down the wicket but only managed to slice it to be caught by fielder at point. Iftikhar again made a breakthrough when he bowled Haris Sohail at 20.Umar Khan stumped Corey Anderson on 22. Aamir claimed the all important wicket of AB de Villiers after he was caught by Umar at 33. The Kings were looking to turn around their fortunes after Wednesday night’s drubbing at the hands of Islamabad United as they were sitting at the bottom of the points table. Now they have pushed Multan Sultans at the bottom. On the other hand, Lahore fared much better after they came out on time by defeating Quetta Gladiators by eight wickets Wednesday night. Fourth-placed Qalandars comfortably chased down a 107-run target in a low-scoring match in Dubai.
