Students of the Institute of Space Science and Technology (ISST) of the University of Karachi on Thursday won an inter-departmental humorous declamation contest held at the varsity.In all 44 students belonging to different faculties of the KU took part in the contest, which was held at the Audio Visual Centre of the Arts and Social Science Faculty. Humorous speeches in both English and Urdu equally entertained the audience.In the English contest, Faculty of Pharmacy student Aleeza Fatima secured the first position, Kinza Shujaat of the ISST bagged second position, and Anwish Khalid also from the ISST clinched the third position.In the Urdu contest, Kashif Hussain of the Department of Public Administration bagged the first position, Muneeba Saeed of the ISST secured the second position, while Mustaqeem Zahid of Department of Physics clinched the third position.The team trophy of the contest was clinched by the ISST. Kanza Shujaet and Muneeba Saeed lifted the team trophy for English and Urdu respectively.Meanwhile, Adviser to the KU Vice-Chancellor on Students’ Affairs Dr Syed Asim Ali said that the students of the university in the present era were lucky enough as the KU’s administration had been constantly conducting extracurricular activities for them in accordance with the vision of VC Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan.He said that such programmes had been helpful in highlighting and activating the hidden talent and abilities of the students of the university.The judge of the English declamation contest, Noor-us-Saba Tauqeer, said that this was for the first time that such a massive participation had been witnessed in a humorous declamation contest held anywhere in Pakistan. This showed that the KU had a very bright future ahead as far as declamation contests were concerned, said the judge.The judge of the Urdu declamation contest, Adnan Akhtar, said that lately, he had observed that KU students had started winning declamation contests held at the national level. He said that after attending this humorous declamation contest he had come to the conclusion that Ku students had been getting proper training for such speech competitions.
