The mask has finally fallen from India’s face of extremism. If reports are anything to go by, 200 houses of Indian Muslims have been burnt to the ground in the guise of an anti-encroachment drive. It is ironic that the police have arrested six Muslims to probe the matter. Ever since the BJP came into power, India has been taken over by extremist elements which are making it difficult for Indian minority communities, especially Muslims, to live and move freely. The recent incident of terrorism against Muslims is a reminder of how Muslims suffered in the Gujarat massacre. Contrary to this, in Pakistan, a minister had to step down from his position as he used harsh words against Hindus. India should learn lesson from this event. It is also essential for independent human rights organisations to call for immediate action and put an end to India creating a hostile environment for Muslims. Muslim-majority countries must also raise their voices in support of Indian Muslims and take concrete steps for their protection.Iftikhar MirzaIslamabad
