Concerts have become regular in Pakistan in recent years and Strings have become just as available, playing shows across the country. Taking the state of the art stage, Strings were the heart of the show at a concert at Iqra University North Campus, in Karachi, recently. The duo has massive following on social media, with a notable fan base. They jumpstarted things with a cover of ‘Jo bheji thi dua’ and successfully set the tone for the evening ahead. The improvisation they showcased in the beginning and at the end earned them serious applause. They followed it up with three cover songs such as ‘Soraj dooba Hai’, ‘Agar Tum Sath Ho’ and Junoon’s ‘DostI’ that had the crowd interested to say the least. Upon their departure, Strings arrived in style, with screaming fans waiting for this very moment. Receiving more shouts from the teenage crowd that already had clawed its way to the front of the stage to be able to dance and sing along, the band got off to a bumpy start. Belting out the first track of the evening, ‘Koi Anay Wala Hai’, they began by thanking the crowd for their support and love. After that, they sang ‘Na Jane Kyun’, ‘Chaye Chaye’. There was absolutely no looking back when the all-time favourites started coming. Strings then belted out ‘Anjane’ that sounded more like a reprised version than the original. Next came the ultimate crowd pleaser ‘Sajni’ with its perfect feel good vibe and is off their newest album, 30. The monstrous ‘Zinda Hoon’ had the crowd. With a strong ability to cater to every demographic as well as the magic of their music on large crowds and even this concert was no exception. Continuing with few other favourites such as ‘Dhani’, ‘Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar’ and ‘Urr Jaoon’, a much slower track, also from their new album, provided a smooth transition. The act, which took the evening to its pinnacle, was the groovy drum percussion session of the band with Bilal playing snare, Faisal on side drums, Haider on trumpali & cowbells, Adeel on shaker and Ahad on drums. Bringing grander ferocity on stage with the forever favourite as a rock ballad ‘Mera Bichra Yaar’, Strings proved that they remain an unrivaled pop act. The band concluded the show with a tribute to all the teams playing in PSL with their heartwarming number ‘Hai Koi Hum Jaisa’. – Photography by Adnan Ali
