LAHORE: Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar in a statement on Monday said that Punjab’s educational institutions had regular sports periods in the past and this practice had produced several world sports stars.“Now we want to revive this practice in Punjab schools and colleges and in this regard a suggestion has been sent to Punjab Education Ministry,” DG Sports Sarwar informed. Sarwar said the revival of sports period in educational institutions is need of the hour and it will prove to be very helpful in protecting students from drug addiction. “The Punjab Education Ministry has been asked to restore sports period in educational institutions immediately and bound every student to take part in at least one game at school or college,” he added.Sarwar said Punjab govt is determined to make effective efforts to attract young students towards sports activities and revival of sports culture at educational institutions. Sarwar said the schools and colleges are best place where youngsters can learn basics of different games. “It’s our top priority to bring male and female students towards sports from the young age,” he added.“We will utilize all of our resources to incline young male and female students towards sports events. In this way, we will be able to prepare a large pool of talented players in different games”.
