Nation united against India, says Gilani

MULTAN: Former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Tuesday flayed the war-mongering agenda of India.Speaking to a delegation in connection with the PP-218 (Multan-VIII) by-election at his residence, he said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was doing politics by imposing war on the whole region for his electioneering.Pakistan is a nuclear country and India cannot have the courage to launch any type of adventurism against Pakistan. The entire nation is united against India and supporting the Pakistan armed forces, he said.Gilani directed the youth delegation to set up camp offices in the constituency and expedite electioneering in favour of Pakistan People’s Party candidate Malik Arshad Raan. He said the Gilani family members should fully get involved in the campaign and each person should use his influence for the victory of PPP candidate be setting aside their mutual differences.He assigned special tasks to youth force head Farhan Abbas Gilani for communicating to each voter and family in the constituency. He said the PPP union council units were also contributing restlessly for the victory of the party candidate. “The PP-218 constituency is the second home to Gilani’s family and he had put particular focus on the constituency when in power.”He said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had announced backing the PPP candidate and he was sure about the victory of the PPP candidate in the by-poll.Criticising the PTI government, he said that inflation and sky-rocketing prices of daily commodities had disappointed the masses. “Government claimed of providing 10 million jobs to the youth but the working people are deprived of their current jobs.Masses have become annoyed by the PTI government due to its failed policies. The country’s economy is deteriorating with each passing day since the PTI took over the public offices,” he added.Courts upholds PTI MPA’s disqualification: The Lahore High Court Multan Bench upheld the disqualification of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf MPA Salman Naeem and disposed of his writ petition after declaring the petition not maintainable here on Tuesday, said the court sources. LHC Multan Bench Judge Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi heard the petition. The court directed the petitioner to file his application with the relevant forum. Petitioner Sheikh Salman Naeem defeated Shah Mehmood Qureshi as an independent candidate in the last general elections. The ECP disqualified him for being underage. As per Nadra record, he is less than 25 years of age and no candidate less than 25 years of age is qualified to retain the seat.
