Finalists for Study UK Alumni Awards announced

Islamabad: The British Council has announced 12 finalists for the Study UK Alumni Awards 2019 in Pakistan, the British High Commissions said on Friday.The finalists were selected from among more than 1,200 worldwide applicants for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders, and for their important contribution to strengthening collaborative ties between the UK and Pakistan.The three award winners will be announced online/at a ceremony at on (1 March 2019). The prestigious international award celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni all over the world.Now in its fifth year, the award received more than 1,200 applications from international UK alumni in a record 120 countries, representing more than 140 UK higher education institutions across the UK.The finalists of the Professional Achievement Award, which recognises alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership in their professional field, are: Shahzad Muhammad graduate of University of Glasgow, PhD Research Coordinator (Additional) at Khyber Medical University, Shahzaib Ali graduate of University of Manchester, Kings College London, Senior Manager Digital Transformation at HBL, Nasira Hayat graduate of London Metropolitan University, Clinical Psychologist at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research and Osman Gilani graduate of City University London Vice President at M&D Films Pakistan.The finalists of the Social Impact Award, which acknowledges alumni who have made an exceptional contribution to creating positive social change, are: Salima Begum graduate of IOE, University of London, Instructor at Elementary College for Women Gilgit, Gouhar Pirzada graduate of London Metropolitan University consultant at GIZ, Faran Mahmood graduate of University of Cambridge A/Director at Institute of Space Technology, and Muhammad Atif graduate of University of East Anglia Executive Director at Special Talent Exchange Programme.The finalists of the Entrepreneurial Award, which highlights alumni who have played a leading role in innovation, are: Nousheen Zakaria graduate of Leeds University and Sheffield University CEO and Founder at Out of Box Ltd, Tauseef Zahid graduate of London Metropolitan University Founder, CEO & Partner at Onewood, Muneeb Malik graduate of Imperial College Infrastructure and Management Associate at Reenergia and Osman Haneef graduate of University of OxfordCEO & Managing Director at MILVIK mobile Pakistan.Rosemary Hilhorst, Country Director at the British Council in Pakistan, said the remarkable individuals selected as finalists for the Study UK Alumni Awards in Pakistan had all taken their UK education as a starting point to excel in their chosen careers and shape the world around them. "This year's finalists are a testimony not only to the diversity of UK alumni and their endeavours, but also to the transformative impact of a UK education," she said.
