Anwar Maqsood’s most recent script, Naach Na Jaanay, the first play that has been produced by the Arts Council, is presently being performed to packed audiences, with the Karachi run extended till April 14. While it will head to Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar after Ramazan, the playwright has announced his next play at a press conference held recently at the Karachi Arts Council.Titled Naya Pakistan, the play is expected to premiere on August 14, according to Anwar Maqsood.“I am amazed at writing a second play too soon as I take long breaks between writing screenplays,” Maqsood said, while addressing media personnel during the press conference.“Naya Pakistan is based on a barrow-man who is selling ‘old Pakistan’ on it,” he informed, adding that the upcoming play is also in line with the artists’ endowment fund. All the money collected from the tickets of Naya Pakistan will be given to older artists who are not getting work anymore; the way it was done in case of Naach Na Jaanay.Director of Naach Na Jaanay Dawar Mehmood, who was also present at the press conference and will be directing Naya Pakistan, informed that international bookings for the former are open. It will head to Dubai, London and Malaysia next year. The play stars Yasir Hussain as Akbar, Abdullah Farhat as Mehboob Sahab, Sara Bhatti as Begum Jehan ara while Asad Gujjar features as Chaudhry Sahab.
