Underprivileged women of rural areas of Pakistan find it really difficult to get themselves out of the clutches of poverty. The need of the hour is to create opportunities for poor rural women so that they may attain economic stability. In this regard, the government should give loans to women on soft conditions so that they are able to open their small businesses in their villages and get involved in works like stitching or hand/machine-embroidery. The model of soft loans has been quite successful in Bangladesh; where hundreds and thousands of poor women of villages have been provided loans on soft conditions. The various local and international reports have confirmed that the economic condition of poor women of Bangladesh has improved a lot after receiveing micro-credit facility. Pakistan should study this model of micro finance and try to replicate it.Abdul Samad SamoKarachi
