Helmed by Sharmeen Obaid- Chinoy, SOC Films launched a public awareness campaign in Urdu to educate Pakistanis, especially young people on climate change and global warming. Under the campaign, which aims to educate young children about the effects of climate change, the banner released four parts of its climate change animation series, a first of its kind. The recently released fifth installment, which is the last in the series, explores the neglected area of Manghopir that was once very clean and full of crocodiles. Now with the number of crocodiles decreasing, it is extremely polluted. The short film sends a message to children that we need to heal our environment – something that begins with greater awareness and an understanding that anyone can reduce, reuse and recycle.“There will come a time when our children will not benefit from Karachi’s biodiversity; we have to find a way to preserve our mangroves and the animals that inhabit it,” Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy noted in a press statement post the release of the last part.Given the recent scientific findings that speculate the rise of annual global temperatures, it is clear that issues surrounding climate change and rapid global warming will soon become irreversible. Hence, it is important for every citizen and country to take ownership and responsibility for what products they use and the rate at which they consume them. These short films that are about 2 to 3 minutes longs and have been conceptualized, produced and directed by SOC Films, come across as a much needed tool of awareness in such a scenario.
