Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar will attend Kaifi Azmi Conference in Karachi

The Karachi Arts Council is hosting ‘Kaifi Azmi Conference’ later this month to pay tribute to one of the prominent progressive poets, Kaifi Azmi. The upcoming conference will have Kaifi Azmi’s daughter Shabana Azmi and her husband renowned poet-screenwriter Javed Akhtar in attendance as the honourable guests and speakers for the event, according to Arts Council’s official Facebook page.An office bearer of the Arts Council confirmed the news while speaking to Indian Express recently. “We have invited Kaifi Azmi’s daughter Shabana Azmi and her husband Javed Akhtar for the event besides some other notable cultural personalities from India.”He also informed that the two have agreed to come to Karachi for the conference that is scheduled to take place on February 23 and 24 at the Arts Council.The secretary of the council, Professor Ejaz Farooqi lauds the platform. “It is a great opportunity for notable and popular writers, poets and artists from India to interact with their Pakistani counterparts and we are confident the festival will be a success,” he said.Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar have visited Pakistan before as well; they attended the Faiz International Festival a few months ago and received a warm welcome from Pakistanis.
