PESHAWAR: A number of changes are likely in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police after the new head of the force is making the team to implement his plans for maintaining law and order in the province and introduce policing in the merged districts, a source said on Monday. The source said that a number of police officers are likely to be shuffled in the coming days with some new faces getting key assignments. The new police chief has already changed some of the officers in the Central Police Office, including his personal staff, the head of the media team, as well as officers in other regions and Peshawar. However, the sources believe, more changes are on the cards in the coming days as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Naeem Khan will like to have own team to run the affairs of the force.A team of honest and competent officers picked on merit will help improve the law and order situation as well as the external and internal affairs of the force that is facing a huge task before moving into erstwhile Fata. Many believe the predecessor of the incumbent IGP was lacking a good team of deputies like that of Nasir Khan Durrani to effectively assist him in running the affairs of the force which resulted in a number of issues.A few officers have already returned to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the taking over of the new IGP who have been assigned important assignments. The province, which is short of a large number of officers, will need more seasoned cops for posting in the tribal districts that have been recently merged in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The force will need more officers, at least 30 per cent of the already sanctioned seats for senior cops, while moving into the tribal areas. Though the provincial police force through the provincial government has requested time and again for transferring more senior officers in the province, KP is yet to get the required cops for the merged districts and other towns. The acute shortage of officers in all senior grades, from grade-18 to grade-21, can be gauged from the fact that the Central Police Office mentioned it in at least three of its letters to the quarters concerned only during the month of December 2018. A large number of junior policemen have been posted against the senior positions due to the dearth of officers in the upper grades.
