Celebrating art and design!

awardsThere has been a variety of award ceremonies in Pakistan to recognise talent in various fields. Receiving an award as an individual or as a team is incredibly motivating. There are rewards for all - be it people from the fashion industry, drama and films. However, a field of art that seems neglected in this regard is design and architecture. Fortunately, we now have one such initiative that identifies and regard talent in the fields of art and architecture. Recently, ADA (Architecture Design & Arts), Pakistan’s premier magazine for architecture design and art, held its first award ceremony at the Sindh Governor House in Karachi. The ADA awards focuses on appreciating excellence in the fields of art and its associated disciplines, to showcase Pakistani talent on a global level. The jury for these awards included experts from both Pakistan and across the world, representing countries such as UK, Turkey, Italy, Singapore, France, Lebanon and Iran. The jury members went through hundreds of submissions in two days to select the winners for each category. The winners were a host of prominent and upcoming architects, designers and artists from Pakistan. The event was hosted by renowned RJ Khalid Malik. The attendees enjoyed a special performance by the Shafaat Ali, which set the mood for the evening. Other highlights include a mesmerising performance by the charismatic Suhaee Abro as well as a power-packed performance by the music industry’s newest sensation, Khumariyaan. Moreover, President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, also graced the evening as a chief guest.Maria Aslam, founding editor of ADA magazine and Creator of the ADA Awards, highlighted, “I am delighted by the resounding success of our first ADA Awards and the effort made by all the participants to submit such excellent work. I am humbled by the international jury that have lent their support and time to support our cause. We are confident that this is just the beginning of a new journey to showcase the talent of Pakistan to the world.” Way to go!–– A. Jafri
