Asim Abbasi is working on a web series

Asim Abbasi has been making waves with his debut film Cake that released in March last year and has picked up several accolades in Pakistan and abroad. Featuring Aamina Sheikh, Adnan Malik and Sanam Saeed in key roles, the film brought several awards home and was also sent as Pakistan’s official selection for Oscar consideration.Cake, that released in March last year, is still receiving recognition; the most recent addition was the award at the recently concluded beauty expo, Beyond Beautiful that honoured Asim Abbasi for attempting to break stereotypes.Instep spoke to the filmmaker to find out about the next project he is working on. He informed that he is currently working on a web series. Though not much has been finalized, it is very much in the works.“I am working on a web series,” he told Instep on the sidelines of an event. “It’s too early to reveal anything as funding, budget, etc. takes a while because my films are not very commercial.”Asim also informed that he is writing a film as well.Sharing the Cake experience, he added, “It was great; I didn’t expect it would go on for so long,” reflecting on the recognition the film received on national and international fronts. – Buraq Shabbir
