2019 is going to face some strong competition on the box office this year. As it turns out, 2018 was one of the strongest years Hollywood has had with Disney dominating proceedings. As Variety reports, “ComScore announced the official 2018 final figures Wednesday with Disney taking in 7.33 billion dollars globally last year — the second-biggest year for a studio in industry history, behind only Disney’s own 2016 record of 7.61 billion dollars. Its domestic box office hit 3.09 billion dollars as a new industry record ahead of Disney’s previous record of 3 billion dollars in 2016, as Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Incredibles 2 each surpassed 600 million dollars this year. International box office was 4.23 billion dollars, Disney’s second-biggest year.”With films like Glass, Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, Dark Phoenix, Toy Story 4, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Star Wars: Episode IX, Fast & Furious presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Frozen 2 slated to release, Hollywood is hoping to repeat the success or surpass it. Whether that happens this year remains to be seen but so far, all the signs point to it. In addition, there are always films, the underdogs who could do well, either domestically or internationally such as the upcoming rebooted Men in Black film. Time and fans will decide.
