Workers Welfare Board employees warn of protest

PESHAWAR: Teaching and administrative staff of Workers Welfare Board serving on a regular basis have announced to start a pen-down strike, boycott classes and stage a sit-in outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building against non-acceptance of their demands.Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, All Regular Employees Association (Union) Workers Welfare Board President Darpan Singh said that teachers had served the institute in the same grade since their appointment.He said the authorities concerned were not accepting their demands, including one-step promotion, disbursement of withheld dues on head of house rent of more than 33 months, 10 per cent arrears of annual increase (four months) in budget 2013-14, 7.5 per cent increase arrears of (five months) in annual budget 2015-16, payment of pre-mature increment, medical allowance in light of Supreme Court’s decision. Flanked by the association office-bearers, Kamal Khan, Inayatullah Haq and others, Singh said that the pension process of employees should be organised by following the directives of Workers Welfare Fund.The appointments were made on the basis of favouritism and nepotism in Directorate of Education, he alleged, adding, the competent and honest people were ignored. He questioned that recruitment procedure of senior officials, working on important positions in the directorate. The association president demanded a proper audit of the Workers Welfare Fund. He said the computerised record of employees’ salaries was not available.He urged chief minister and the secretary Workers Welfare Board to meet their demands.The association president threatened the employees would stage a sit-in outside the provincial assembly for an indefinite period hand if the government didn’t accept their demands.
