Water for life

Many people may be wondering why water is so essential in life. Just to count a few: 75 percent of human body is composed of water; we need water for our daily hygiene; and water is widely used agriculturally, economically and commercially. But the most important reason of all is that water is required for life to occur. It is distressing when hundreds of gallons of water go waste while some individuals can’t find a safe enough supply for themselves and their families. While wasted water can’t generally be redirected to those that have greater need, it should make us value the importance of our water and think about those who don’t have such easy access. Pakistan is a country that faces depleting water resources mainly due to climate change and poor water resource management. Some of the alarming scenarios in the future include: water availability for hydropower generation may decline. Mortality due to extreme heatwaves may increase. Urban drainage systems may be further stressed by high rainfall and flash floods. Sea level rise and storm surges may adversely affect coastal infrastructure and livelihoods. We will need to conserve our water if we are to survive.Mehwish AbbasiKarachi
