Retired teachers seek release of health funds

MULTAN: A large number of former teachers from south Punjab cities, particularly from Multan Friday sought help of the Higher Education Department in releasing their health funds. Talking to reporters, the retired teachers said they had to travel to Lahore for clearance of their bills but they faced disappointment in this regard. They said mostly teachers were suffering from different diseases and need immediate medical attention for surgeries, kidney and cardiac issues, but they faced delay in the release of funds. \They said from their meager resources they could not afford costly treatment without the help of Punjab Higher Education Department. They appealed to the HED senior officials for reimbursement of their bills. Chief Instructor Malik Akhtar said he had undergone a kidney transplant four years ago and since then despite his repeated reminders he could not get reimbursed his bills. He appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister and HED senior officials to release his approved reimbursement.Court sends two brothers to Edhi Homes: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Multan Bench Friday sent two brothers to Edhi Homes and summoned their father and others for April 16 in a habeas corpus petition. Sehrish Yasmin of Gulgasht Colony in her petition stated that her father Akhtar Hussain returned from Saudi Arabia after the death of her mother and she left her parents’ home when her father attempted to harass her. She said now she was living with a schoolteacher Nazia Faizi in Multan.She said lives of her two brothers, including 11-year-old mentally retarded Shahbaz Ahmed and 15-year-old Shahzad were in danger. On the order of the court, the police produced both the brothers before the court and the court sent both of them to Edhi Homes. Her father Akhtar Hussain was also produced before the court. The court adjourned the case for April 16 and summoned Akhtar Hussain, teacher Nazia Faizi and others.
