Netanyahu better placed to form coalition after Israel vote: exit polls

JERUSALEM: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared better placed to form a coalition after Israel´s general elections on Tuesday despite his party being neck and neck with his main challenger, exit polls showed.A combination of Netanyahu´s Likud and smaller right-wing parties allied to him had between 60 and 66 seats in the 120-seat parliament, three polls from Israel´s main television stations showed.Netanyahu´s main challenger, Benny Gantz and his Blue and White alliance, along with other smaller parties had between 54 and 60 seats, according to the exit polls.Exit polls have however proven to be unreliable in previous Israeli elections.Netanyahu, Gantz both claim victoryPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his main challenger Benny Gantz both claimed victory after Israel´s general elections on Tuesday as exit polls showed the two were neck and neck.The exit polls from Israel´s three main television stations appeared to show Netanyahu better placed to form a coalition with the help of smaller right-wing parties, but the final outcome was far from clear.Final official results were not expected until early Wednesday.
