Energy waste

Pakistan suffers from a severe energy crisis, but the way energy is being wasted in various public sector offices both at the federal and provincial level, my heart bleeds. Whenever I visit any ministry or any other office in Islamabad, I see many light bulbs and other electrical and electronic-devices on.In this dismal backdrop, it is proposed that a team of senior officers from the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission, cabinet division including the relevant ministries and departments be constituted with the mandate to conduct surprise raids to check waste of electricity in government offices. In addition to this, other regulatory bodies should also play the requisite role, instead of sending inflated bills to other consumers to make up for the loss. These regulatory bodies should also examine the current market structure, regulatory framework and tariff structure of the sector. If not, then many troubles lie ahead for us because the weather has started showing its inclemency.Hashim AbroIslamabad
