Famed Pakistani actor Armeena Rana Khan is infuriated at a Pakistani blogger’s comment on fellow bloggers’ complaining about the lack of local representation at the Pakistan Tourism Summit held recently. The two-day event held at Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad was graced with social media influencers from abroad with little to no local representation which was highly dissented by Pakistani travel bloggers including Bilal Hassan (@Mystapaki), Shariq Raza (@iamshariqraza), Anam Hakeem (@girlwithagreenpassport) and others. On this point, Umar Khan –another Pakistani vlogger attacked those influencers disgruntled at the apparent negligence saying: “As a content creator one shoudnt even have time for petty issues like “oh I didn’t get invited and I worked so hard for all those years” this isn’t lux style awards nor is it a YOUTUBE FAN FEST.”He went on to say: “To build Pakistan tourism everyone has to work together and not undermine or question the integrity of a government body just because a Vlogger’s fragile ego didn’t get validation.”Retorting to Khan’s outburst, Armeena in a series of tweets saying: “Whoa there horsey! This isn’t some totalitarian regime that it can’t be questioned. EVERYTHING can and SHOULD be questioned (yes, I’m a staunch PTI supporter) Now, where I live, we continuously fight for “inclusivity” and against racism Ethnic minorities fight injustices based on the colour of our skins abroad.”“I think what people are annoyed about is the exclusion of brown faces. Are you seriously telling me that including a local Pakistani blogger or two would’ve taken away from promoting pakistan?,” she added.“That’s your fault not theirs. I’ve seen many that have been contributing for years, sitting HERE. Why couldn’t you? Also this proves my point, this was the same exact platform that should have had made available to them so ppl could get to know them. Really sad,” she went on to say. On the same prevailing issue, an acclaimed international travel blogger Alex (@lostwithpurpose) also came forth in support of the local talent in Pakistan saying: “It’s really concerning to me that in a country of 200 million people not a single local travel influencer is being featured in this summit. I humbly request that Atif Khan [tourism minister] and others stat giving local talent the support they deserve. There is no one better suited to create content that communicates the wonders of Pakistan than its own photographers, vloggers, bloggers.”
