Zoe Viccaji and Mooroo release ‘Hum’

Collaborations can be a tricky thing. But it’s not always a bad idea. One case in point is Laal Kabootar’s Jabar Abbas-Taha Malik single, ‘Jug(art)’ where both artists complement each other and it also helps that one of them – Taha Malik – is the producer.Another recent collaboration – that has nothing to do with Laal Kabootar but works just as well – is Zoe Viccaji and Mooroo’s ‘Hum’.The music video, directed by Salman Noorani, and produced jointly by Zoe and Mooroo (Taimoor Salahuddin) is perhaps the sweetest music video to release in recent days. The two seem to be playing a couple, Mooroo on the negative side of life, Zoe on the positive and half way through the video she sings about leaving troubles behind. ‘Choro Sarey Ghum/Jahan Key Dekho Rung,’ she sings, and Mooroo joins her for a beautiful creation. The scene flips, he gets her tea and reminds her ‘Choro Sarey Ghum/Jahan Key Dekho Rung’ and the two dance outside and the weather gets snowy. A very light, happy ballad, the music, subtle and almost quiet, lets the video take centerstage but on its own remains just as gorgeous. The production and art design is very commendable. At one point, we see the two co-singing at the beach, surrounded by a sun about to set but not quite there and it ends at an ambigious point. It’s actually like a story about two people and what happened to them because the video begins with decaying things you see in a home at the beach. The video is perhaps an ode to romance but prevalent times as well and a sweet ditty at a time when fiery views are being passed in the cultural community of both countries. It’s a good video from the artists and we’re still only into March, which means 2019 should be a strong year for both music and accompanying videos for Pakistan. In these hysterical war mongering days, this sweet video is just the thing to watch and think about.
