After giving us one of the best crime anthology series with True Detective’s first season, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the lead, HBO turned 360 degrees and gave us a second season that got worse with each episode. Even the presence of actors like Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams couldn’t salvage the series. One major difference between the two seasons was its direction. While Cary Joji Fukunaga directed season one, season two had multiple directors. But, the series, created and written by Nic Pizzolatto, may have learned from past mistakes. The third season stars Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali as Detective Wayne Hays and will premiere on January 13, 2019. He is joined by a slew of actors such as Stephen Dorff (who will play his partner) as well as Carmen Ejogo and Ray Fisher. The story will go over three decades with most of the season written by Pizzolatto and Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson serving as executive producers. The trailer is gripping albeit dark and once again proves that Ali is one of the best actors working in Hollywood today. Pizzolatto meanwhile will also serve as one of the directors.
