Madiha Imam, who made her Bollywood debut with Dear Maya opposite Manisha Koirala last year, has a few but diverse roles to her credit. She played a key role in the film alongside Koirala and garnered praise for her performance on both sides of the border. In Pakistan, she has played prominent roles in plays like Dhaani, Heer, Zakham and Woh Mera Dil Tha that concluded earlier this year and has worked with ace actors Faysal Qureshi, Sami Khan and Savera Nadeem among others.Currently, the VJ turned actress is essaying the role of Faysal Qureshi’s step daughter, Nimra, in Geo TV’s drama serial Baba Jani that highlights important social issues such as harassment, female education, etc. Madiha fits the role well as she portrays innocence and strength at the same time and speaks only when it is necessary. Aside from the ongoing play Baba Jani, Madiha is gearing up for two upcoming TV projects. Instep got in touch with the actress to find out about the TV plays that she is presently shooting for. One of them is called Mera Rab Waris that stars Danish Taimoor opposite her and is being directed by Asad Jabal.“My character is called Ayesha Farhan; it is very different and challenging,” Madiha told Instep in an exclusive conversation. “Ayesha is a young girl who is very close to her Creator and practices her religion (Islam). She has a degree in Islamic History and is a Hafiza e Quran. Her conduct reflects that more than her words. She is a modern-day, opinionated woman who goes out, drives a car and is progressive.”Madiha also informed that the play highlights how Ayesha, the protagonist, tackles people’s reactions towards her religious demeanor. Mera Rab Waris has several other themes such as family values, love versus arranged marriage, trust, etc. Tanveer Jamal and Fazila Qazi will be essaying the role of Ayesha’s parents while the upcoming play also features Seemi Pasha, Hira Hussain and Abid Ali. Mera Rab Waris is scheduled to air on Geo TV early next year. The second project that the actress is busy shooting for these days is titled Dushman. Directed by Amin Iqbal, whose project Deedan is currently on-air, the project will have Madiha opposite Mohib Mirza who is playing the protagonist opposite Sanam Saeed in Deedan.“I am playing the role of Rabab, a cute, little innocent but a very mature girl,” the 27-year-old actress shared, adding that Rabab is a great combination of innocence and maturity given her responsibilities and experiences at a very early age.“She stays at home as her elder sister does all the outdoor work due to their father and brother’s poor health,” Madiha continued. “Rabab looks after all the home chores and understands that her sister is burdened with so many things.”Madiha revealed that Dushman will be an interesting watch for viewers as it has a lot more drama compared to her other project.“It is a mind boggling story of a lower middle class family (to which Rabab belongs) as opposed to an elite family that Mohib’s character belongs to,” she added. “There is a lot of drama in it. Love, betrayal, apology and redemption are some of the central themes of the play that will also highlight how various characters evolve by the end.”
