The comeback of Junoon, featuring the original trio of Ali Azmat, Salman Ahmed and Brian O’ Connell - after years of arbitrary one-sided rumours - is finally taking shape.Having released a music video for ‘Khudi’ earlier this year, the band is now gearing up to take the stage in Karachi for their first live gig in over 13 years on December 25 at DHA Sports Club, also known as the Moin Khan Academy. In addition, more than 200 musicians gathered to pay tribute to the band and a snippet of that video is rotating online. The musicians for the video were gathered, thanks to music app Jambro. It comprises the likes of Sounds of Kolachi and many, many more from across the board. It seems to be a celebration of Junoon that went on to inspire many bands and at one point was Pakistan’s biggest band. The song they gathered to play is none other than the massive Junoon hit, ‘Jazba Junoon’ and the full track is available on Patari.More to the point, the opening acts for the upcoming concert have been unveiled and they include Khumariyaan, Lyari Underground, Sounds of Kolachi and Tamaasha. Will this reunion lead to more shows, a new song or just this Karachi gig remains to be seen but for now it looks like fans of the once-iconic band are quite excited about this reunion.
