First look of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s Sitara released

We reported last month that two-time Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy announced her latest project, titled Sitara, and that it will be Pakistan’s first animated production to be released internationally including North America.The filmmaker, journalist and activist recently revealed the first look of the upcoming film. Sharmeen took to social media to share the good news. “Presenting the first look of Sitara - an upcoming animated film made by Waadi Animations and Broadly Films,” she wrote on her official Instagram handle.Coming back to Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, she recently released the third installment of animated film, 3 Bahadur. The filmmaker is known for her story telling techniques and takes up themes that shine light on injustices against women with the aim to empower them. Sharmeen also released animated awareness campaign, Climate Change Animated Series and public service campaign, Aagahi, last year. The former aims to educate people about the importance of climate change, while the latter is about creating awareness in women about their legal rights in Pakistan.By the looks of it, Sitara seems to tackle the topic of women empowerment and is scheduled to release in mid-2019.
