First Egyptian movie, 122, to release in Pakistan

All year long, multiple Hollywood and Bollywood movies are released in cinemas across the country along with a number of Pakistani films as well, which is certainly a treat for cine-goers. The good news is that for the first time, an Egyptian movie, titled 122, is all set to release in Pakistan.Helmed by Iraqi director Yasir Al-Yasiri, the action-thriller is slated for release in Egypt on January 3, 2019; however, it will hit cinemas in Pakistan on January 18, 2019. The film is in Arabic, but it has been dubbed in Urdu to cater to local audience. This is Yasir Al-Yasiri’s second feature film; his debut, On Borrowed Time, made its world premiere at the 2018 Palm Springs International Film Festival.Coming back to 122, what’s interesting about it is that it’s the first Arab film which has been made in an immersive/sensory 4DX format, and will allow audience to utilize all five senses while watching the movie. 122 stars Amina Khalil, Tarek Lotfy, Ahmed el-Fishawy, Mamdooh Mohammed, Gihan Khalil, and Mohammed Dawood in key roles. It is written by Salah El Gehiny, who has critically acclaimed films such as El-Khaliyyah (The Cell) and Awlad Rezk (Rezk’s Sons) to his credit. The former earned 5 million dollars in the Arab world and topped the Egyptian box office. 122 follows the story of a couple who meet with an accident. They have to face something unusual inside what seems like a hospital, where one is supposed to feel safe. The trailer shows a man and his loved one trying to escape from the hospital in order to save their lives. But things get worse as they struggle to survive that horrific night. The trailer of 122 is quite intense and intriguing, and the actors have certainly done a commendable job, but the Urdu dubbing is slightly off and doesn’t do justice to the narrative. Perhaps the actual film will be better.122 is scheduled to hit cinemas across Pakistan on January 18, 2019.
