Filmmaker Hamza Bangash to attend the Locarno Festival 2019

It was last year in August that filmmaker and theatre practitioner Hamza Bangash’s short film, Dia had its world premiere at the 71st Locarno Film Festival. Recently, Hamza took to his official Instagram handle to announce that he will be representing Pakistan at the 72nd edition of Locarno International Film Festival that will begin on August 7 and will run till August 17, 2019.“Thrilled to announce that I’ll be attending the Locarno Filmmakers Academy this year. I remember the first time I applied for the programme in 2016. Life works in weird ways, but above all, it works SLOWLY,” he wrote.“I am so grateful to be given this opportunity, and to all the incredible people who have supported/ mentored/ guided me (the wonderful people at Open Doors, Goethe-Institut, Prince Claus Fund, Qalambaaz, and my family and friends). Can’t wait to spend 10 days in Locarno and soak in the best that world cinema has to offer!” he added.Bangash also shared that this year the Filmmakers Academy is taking place with a selection of 20 directors from 16 different countries. During the 11 day-festival, the filmmakers will be offered a quality programme of appointments and meetings with prestigious guests at the 72nd edition. The selection is based on a wide diversity of backgrounds and identities, as well as styles in their way of telling stories through the seventh art. On four evenings that will be open to the public, the Locarno Festival will host screenings of a selection of short films by the filmmakers: the Academy Screenings.
