Shaz Khan and Faran Tahir collaborate for The Martial Artist

We reported earlier that film and TV actor Shazli Hafeez Khan more popularly known as Shaz Khan – who rose to fame with Jami Mehmood’s critically-acclaimed film Moor (2015) - is now gearing up for an international project, titled The Martial Artist, in which he will essay the part of an MMA fighter.Grapevine has it that the actor has joined hands with renowned Pakistani-American actor-producer Faran Tahir, who is known for his remarkable performances in Hollywood films such as Star Trek, Scandal and Iron Man among many others, for his [Shaz] directorial debut, The Martial Artist.Tahir and Khan were present in London at a press conference during their trip to London to watch an exclusive Brave MMA event. During the press meet, Shaz Khan shared that he always envisioned making films that tell universal stories for the global audience that have Pakistanis/desis as the main characters. According to the press statement, Khan revealed that “The Martial Artist is a sports-action drama dealing with the main character’s rise in the MMA world in California and after suffering a horrific loss, his journey back to his homeland where he connects with his roots and has a spiritual awakening that leads him to his comeback.” Shaz Khan posted a video from an intense training session with Master Rafael Cordeiro on social media earlier this year and shared that he has been training for the upcoming feature film.Faran Tahir saw the potential of the project and came on as a producer and will also play one of the main characters in the story. “It’s simple from my end if you want to see brown faces on the global screen, we have to create those stories ourselves,” said Faran Tahir.
