A man was robbed of foreign currency and other valuables by police impersonators within the remits of the Malir Cantt police station.Police said they had registered an FIR on the complaint of Nadeem Akhtar. He told police that he had returned from Dubai on November 28 and landed at the Karachi airport. He was with his cousin, Jahangir, his mother and other relatives, heading towards their home in Saeedabad when a car stopped them near Saima Apartments on MM Alam Road. Two youngsters, who were wearing p-cap, came out of the car and impersonated themselves as police officials by showing police cards.The two men said they had some information about the presence of Daesh material and they needed to check their vehicle and documents. At this, Jahangir, who is associated with a federal law enforcement department, started questioning them.The alleged robbers got confused and took out a 9mm pistol and opened fire. They snatched Nadeem’s wallet carrying 6,000 dirhams, Rs10,000, Dubai’s driving licence, identification cards, visa papers and other documents and ran away.Police have referred the case to the investigation unit for a probe. The investigation team has developed footage, including pictures of the alleged robbers and the registration number of the vehicle used by the suspects.
