Former President of United Stated, Barack Obama has such an eclectic taste that just last week the New York Times published an op-ed on him as a music critic.
It turns out, they’re right. He’s not just a fan of The Boss (Bruce Springsteen) or Bob Dylan. Among his list, he included American artists Lizzo and DaBaby, Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Rema, and a folk-rock song called ‘Big Thief’ by Not. The list goes on to include ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas ft. Billy Ray Circus and Kaytranada’s new record.
Other artists who made Obama’s 2019 music list includes Beyonce Knowles, Bruce Springsteen, The National, The Black Keys, Frank Ocean, The HighWomen, Mavis Staples, Prateek Kuhad, Snoh Aalegra, Joe Henry, Alicia Keys featuring Miguel, J. Cole, Maggie Rogers, Koffee, Adia Victoria, Rema, DaBaby, Lizzo, Goldlink, and many more.
Obama’s taste in books for 2019 is just as peculiar, picking up names such as The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power by Shoshana Zuboff that did raise some serious commentary from Twitter.
Obama also shared the complete list of his favourite music and tweeted, “From hip-hop to country to The Boss, here are my songs of the year. If you’re looking for something to keep you company on a long drive or help you turn up a workout, I hope there’s a track or two in here that does the trick.”
