Google doodle features Iqbal Bano on 81st birth anniversary

After paying tribute to some prominent Pakistani figures – Nazia Hassan, Fatima Surayya Bajia, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Abdul Sattar Edhi – in the past, Google recently honoured singer Iqbal Bano on account of her 81st birth anniversary on December 28, 2019 (Saturday). The doodle featured Iqbal Bano’s artwork, designed by artist Samya Arif, who has worked with Google for the Google Doodle series.

The artist took to Twitter and expressed her gratitude in these words, “OMG MY ARTWORK on IQBAL BANO is on GOOGLE!! EXCITED & HONORED to share this special project I got to work on for @Google for their Google Doodle series, celebrating Pakistan’s brilliant & revered, the iconic Iqbal Bano on her 81st birthday today.”

Born in 1938 in Delhi, India, Iqbal Bano was an acclaimed Pakistani ghazal singer who left the world in 2009 at the age of 74. Best known for her semi-classical Urdu ghazal songs and classical thumris, she was honoured with the Pride of Performance Award in 1974 by the President of Pakistan. Some of her notable works include singing ghazals of renowned Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
