Zoya Nasir shares details of her next drama, Deewangi

LOS ANGELES: Makeup artist turned actress Zoya Nasir made her acting debut in and as Hania alongside Junaid Khan earlier this year. She essayed the role of a petrified wife, Hania, whose husband was a fraud and was brutal, and received appreciation for her work.Though she started off as a strong woman, who was vocal about injustices she faced, she ended up in a sad state of affairs. Breaking away from the portrayal of a woman suffering at the hands of her husband, Zoya promises to offer something completely different to viewers in her next project. Titled Deewangi, the upcoming drama features her as Narmeen, cast opposite Danish Taimoor.We caught up with the actor while she was shooting for the project that took about three months to finish. Here is what she has to say about her upcoming role.“As different as it gets, let’s just say you take Hania and flip her 180 degrees; where Hania was compromising and an introvert, Narmeen is demanding and overly expressive,” Zoya began to share about her next role on the small screen.Reflecting on the plot, she added, “Our drama industry thrives on love stories and social issues; Deewangi, which is directed by Zeeshan Ahmed, takes a bit of both – with extremism, ego and divinity being some of the central themes explored in the production.Aside from Deewangi, which is Zoya’s second TV project, she is also an important part of Haseeb Hassan’s upcoming cross-border web series Dhoop Ki Deewar that stars Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly in lead roles. Besides, she recently started shooting for her third drama serial, called Zebaish in which she is joined by actor Asad Siddiqui. Zoya shared that she is really excited about her upcoming projects but she can’t disclose much at the moment.When asked what she is intrigued by when offered a role, she responded, “All I look for is another day to act, something to wake up to, something super exciting and exhilarating.”There is no denying the fact that weeping women sell on TV and most Pakistani dramas play up that factor. Does Zoya want to be that actress who follows the trend or does she want to break away from such cliched portrayals onscreen?“There are multiple ways to define that. For example, Narmeen weeps too, but that’s more of a tantrum. But yes, I do consciously decide not to take seemingly recurring roles. I’d love to do comedy, or this may be aiming too far, but action!” she explained.Zoya comes from a background that allowed her to grow up on the sets; her father Nasir Adeeb, writer of the old and the upcoming Maula Jatt, makes movies. He helped her in polishing her skills but the passion and love for acting was in her always. It has been over a year since Zoya stepped into the television industry and she feels that like any other industry, this too has its advantages and disadvantages. However, she admits that she has been blessed to be treated with kindness and professionalism, so far.On a parting note, Zoya admitted that she hasn’t been offered any films yet but she is open to the idea. “I’m not going to say no to an amazing script with a great director if it comes my way. I can’t stay at one pace or do one thing for a long time. I guess that’s a good and a bad thing. I get bored easily and then go off to explore new stuff so you never know,” she concluded.
