The film marks the feature directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Bassam Tariq, whose recent effort Ghosts of Sugar Land won the non-fiction short film award at Sundance and was acquired by Netflix.Co-written by Bassam Tariq and Riz Ahmed, Mughal Mowgli is a spiritual drama about a British-Pakistani rapper who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an epigenetic illness that threatens to derail his big break.Ahmed, who is currently prepping the TV drama Englistan for the BBC, has plenty of experience as a rapper, having emerged in the London music scene under the name Riz MC and performing both as a solo artist and with his band Swet Shop Boys. With production on Mughal Mowgli set to begin this month, we just can’t wait to see Ahmed’s talents as a producer, songwriter and performer take centerstage.
