Islamabad : Roots International Schools and Colleges students visited movie screening ‘The Hidden Figures’ at the American Center at the US Embassy here which was followed by adiscussion, says a press release.‘The Hidden Figures’ movie is based on novel ‘Hidden Figures’ and depicts the story of how in 1926, three brilliant African-American women at NASA — Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) — served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world. These ladies contributed to the flight at a time when racism was at peak in USA under the presidency of John F. Kennedy.Their contributions were criticized and they had to endure immense backlash, but despite these hardships they worked diligently and marked history. This visit was under the umbrella of ‘Young Diplomat Series’ and ‘meet with the diplomats’ to promotepeople to people connections between United States and Pakistan and to teach students benefits of choosing STEM careers.RIS under the leadership of Walid Mushtaq is sending students to world renowned universities by giving them timelines and objectives of university acceptances all over the world.More than 500 students are travelling across the world through this platform to various universities attending summer/ winter / spring camps.
