Funds demanded for hospitals waste project

LAHORE: ‘Yellow Rooms’ established by the last government for waste collection of hospitals in Punjab have stopped working for want of funds.MPA Mian Irfan Daultana pointed out that due to stoppage of funds in all district and tehsil hospitals, the project of ‘Yellow Rooms’ has been stopped and there is a big threat of spreading hepatitis among the patients while re-use of syringes and other hospital waste would be another threat. Mian Irfan Daultana highlighted that closure of this programme would also be compelling 700 families to worry about their bread and butter while it will be also violation of international standards for health institutions. He demanded the Punjab government immediately take action in this regard and release funds for ‘Yellow Room’ project in all district and tehsil hospitals otherwise the issue will be raised in Punjab Assembly as well. He said Shahbaz Sharif government took initiatives for destroying hospital waste properly which was appreciated by World Bank, World Health Organization, Unicef, EPA, Health Care Commission and other national and international organisations but the present government has ignored all the standards and playing with the lives of innocent patients. MPA Mian Irfan Daultana said 1.4 million tons of waste of Punjab hospitals demands proper disposing of through ‘Yellow Rooms Project’.minister: Minister for Health Yasmin Rashid visited children and gynae wards of Services Hospital on Thursday.Principal Services Institute of Medical Sciences Prof Dr Ayaz Mehmood, MS Services Hospital Dr Saleem Cheema and others were present on this occasion. The minister inspected the treatment facilities being provided to the patients and cleanliness condition of gynae and children wards of Services Hospital. Yasmin Rashid said medical superintends of hospitals have been directed to strictly observe the cleanliness conditions of the hospitals.
