Marvel fans in Pakistan have been speculating the release of Captain Marvel across the country, the twenty-first installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after its worldwide release on Friday, March 8. At a time when no Bollywood films are shown in local cinemas, cine-goers were eagerly waiting for Captain Marvel, hoping that the film might have at least a delayed release in Pakistan. Sadly, however, the film will not see the light of the day, according to a recent announcement by Cinepax Cinemas on their Facebook page. They shared that Disney’s regional office did not give Pakistan the rights to release the film here. The post reads, “Hey fans! We truly admire your anticipation to watch Captain Marvel in your nearest Cinepax Cinemas. We realize the wait must have made you wonder if it was merely a delay in the release date or else. We are sad to announce that the Disney’s regional office didn’t give Pakistan the rights to run Captain Marvel. Hence, Captain Marvel is not releasing in Pakistan.”This news has saddened Marvel fans who were anticipating the release of the first Marvel film that has been co-directed by a woman (Anna Boden) with Brie Larson starring as Carol Danvers, the first female superhero lead.Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s and follows the story of Carol Danvers who becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. We wonder what war its release in Pakistan has been caught between!
