‘8 Days of #Aagahi’ comes to an end today

With the aim to educate women about their legal rights in Pakistan, SOC Films, helmed by two-time Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker and journalist Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (SOC) launched the public service campaign, Aagahi last year. To amplify legal literacy, 8 Days of #Aagahi that started on March 1, 2019 has come to an end today (March 8) that is, International Women’s Day.With six short films already out, Aagahi cover various topics such as the law, its interpretation and the safety that it provides to the victim. The series also informs women about their legal rights so that they can make informed decisions in their lives and consequently, transform communities by breaking cycles of violence. Unfortunately, one in two Pakistani women experience violence and never seek help or tell anyone about these incidents and 8 Days of #Aagahi was all about spreading awareness by posting and sharing a short selfie-style cell phone video in Urdu or English responding to “Women should be aware of their rights because…” and posting it on digital platforms such as Instagram/Twitter account using the hashtag, #Aagahi. Moreover, some celebrities lent their support to the campaign and shared videos on their social media handles. Veteran actress Samina Ahmed shared her views on being aware of your rights online, while social activist Sheema Kermani spoke about ending child marriage. Renowned designer Maheen Khan, actress Sarwat Gilani, model and host Anoushey Ashraf, singer Rachel Viccaji and several other artists took to social media and posted their videos online.Aagahi is a series of 14 short animated films produced by SOC Films with renowned actress Aamina Sheikh having lent her voice to the series.
