Creative Karachi Festival 2019 commences tomorrow

After a successful run in 2014 and 2016, the upcoming third edition of Creative Karachi Festival (CKF) is all set to take place at Alliance Francaise de Karachi this weekend. A regular feature on Karachi’s cultural calendar now, CKF is a two-day event of interdisciplinary arts and creativity, transformed into a weekend ‘mela’. It was initiated by the very passionate Sabeen Mahmud, founder of T2F, who dubbed the festival as a ‘non-stop party in the park’.CKF 2019 will take the vision of enacting positive transformative change through art, creativity and dialogue forward.According to their event page on Facebook, “The two-day festival promises to transform our tiny corner of the megalopolis of Karachi into a buzzing wonderland of music, art, food, creativity and fun through an exceptional line-up of visual artists, contemporary and traditional craftsmen, performers, writers, poets, dancers, film and documentary makers, qawwals and musicians, comedians and storytellers and a unique outdoor eating experience with communal tables, food demos and tastings!”Scheduled to take place from Aug 30 till 31, the event will begin at 2 in the afternoon and will run till 10 at night. A total of 22 locally produced short feature length films will be screened during the two days. Films to screen on the first day include Sania Saeed-starrer U Turn by Zoya Hassan, Bohat Tyt by Hudaib Haider, Hawass by Nazish Jamal, Indus Blues by Jawad Sharif and Mauj Be Harkat Si by Sibtain Shabbir. Featuring artist Kaif Ghaznavi, Mauj Be Harkat Si – a film that talks about hope, empathy and emotions – recently won at the Best Shorts Competition 2019.In addition to films, there will be a communal drumming exercise as Drum Circle will also be coming to the festival. Karachi Ke Nazaaray, a group exhibition showcasing works of various artists from Karachi, will also take place during the festival. Each artist, through diverse mediums, expresses diverse perspectives, narrations and interactions with the city and its environment.Tickets cost PKR 500 and will be available at the gates.
