Pakistani short film Rani that features transgender model and activist Kami Sid has been making headlines for one reason or another. The way the short has been performing at international platforms, it may well be one of the most significant shorts of our time.After having multiple screenings at various international festivals and winning accolades at different platforms, short film Rani is creating buzz once again .Rani, written and directed by Hammad Rizvi and produced by Akbar Allana and Sara Siddiqi, is heading to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2019.GrayScale Production took to Instagram to announce the news. “Rani has been selected by the London Film Academy to be part of a special showcase of films, at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival! The Short Film Corner runs from May 20th till May 25th, at the 72nd Festival De Cannes,” the post read.Earlier this month, the short bagged the Special Jury Award for Impact at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) 2019.Rani - produced jointly by GrayScale and Rizvilia Productions - also won the Best Narrative Short Award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival in March among many other awards.The short film stars Maaz Khan and Hina Pathani, apart from Kami Sid, and is a unique story about a transgender Pakistani woman who sets out to take care of an abandoned baby. It highlights the journey of a toy vendor, essayed by Kami Sid, who deals with harsh situations after she decides to become a parent to the abandoned child.
