Wasa to start covering open manholes

Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has decided to make survey of the entire city coming in its areas to ascertain the number of manholes which are remained uncovered.The Wasa Chairman, Mohammad Arif Abbasi while chairing a meeting of the sewerage and sanitation officials issued directions to launch a survey in Rawalpindi on manholes which are not covered. In this regard, a special team has also been formed to kick off survey.The chairman said that the open manholes causes harm to the citizens with the incidents of people falling under it resulting in injuries and deaths.Arib Abbasi also warned the concerned staff and its head/incharge that if in future any manhole is found uncovered then the entire responsibility would fall on their should. Necessary action would be taken against the related staff including incharge of their respective union councils/tehsils.He asked the citizens to approach Wasa on 1,334 which is toll free. Similarly, the public could also lodge complaints on Wasa’s face book as well as its website. He said the lives of citizens are very precious and its is the obligation of civic body to cover all manholes. The chairman directed the related officials to complete survey work in shortest possible days and submit him report on it.
