KARACHI: M Sharif on Saturday catapulted himself to within striking distance of winning the UMA 19th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship when he ended the penultimate round of the prestigious event with a one-shot lead here at the Karachi Golf Club.Sharif who carded 76 in the opening round was in full flow in the second round scoring a superb three-under par 69 to take the pole position on the leader-board. He now has a two-day aggregate of 145. Just one shot off the pace was KGC’s Saim Shazli who returned with another round of 73 for an aggregate of 146. He is followed by Sajid Khan at 147. Zubair Hussain is at 150 along with Owais Intisar. Zubair Ahmed is at 151 followed by Hamza Shikoh (152) and Syed Raza Ali (153).In the seniors’ category, former champion Omar Bangash brought himself back into contention after a disastrous round of 88 by carding a stunning 73 in the second round. But Captain Azhar Iqbal is still leading the pack after carding 78 in the second round. His aggregate is 153 which gives him a four-shot lead over second-placed Col Mansoor Akram. Placed at the third place on the seniors’ leader-board is Sohail Kareem Rana (158) followed by Omar Bangash (161), Cdre Ghazanfar Abbas (161) and Col Zahid Iqbal (161), Asad I.A Khan (162) and Khalid Jameel Siddiqi (163). The three-day championship hosted by Sindh Golf Association will conclude today (Sunday).
